On Friday I arrived home to this lovely package waiting for me in my kitchen!
The wonderful team over at The Paleo Bread had sent me samples of their Almond and Coconut (coming next week) breads to give them a try.  Since going Paleo, I have on the whole not missed eating bread. The overwhelming full feeling, lethargy and dropping blood sugars (aka shaking hands and nausea upon severe hunger) are no longer part of my life. But that said, there is something about packing a sandwich for lunch (half ease and half nostalgia) that I miss and eating a hot dog on a plate, or in an egg wrap just doesn’t cut it.

Friday night, since it was about 9 million degrees (read: 90 degrees) the BF and I decided this would be the perfect time to try the Paleo bread with eggsalad sandwhiches and a fresh tomato.
The verdict? 3 cheers! Naturally, the Paleo bread lacks the fluffiness that you would expect from regular gluten and grain packed bread (uh hello they aren't baking with regular old flour). But what it lacks in fluffiness, it makes up for with density, texture and flavor. The Paleo bread is way more dense (think almost pound cake like) than regular old bread, but the flavor is virtually the same!

As you can see, the loaves are on the smaller side. Which for me is perfect since there are only 2 eaters in our house. And at $7.99 a loaf, they are perfect for a 2-3 day-a-week treat.

I realize that most people will see $7.99 and think “for a loaf of bread!? Are you crazy?” Maybe so, but I know that I will pay about $9-12 for a glass of wine while out to dinner and it will be gone in 15 minutes. The $7.99 (plus shipping) in bread will hopefully last you the week and provide greater health benefits than the drink you would purchase. Besides, there is something so cool about fresh baked bread delivered to your door.

Naturally, when eating in this lifestyle, everyone takes a different approach. The BF is more strict in what he eats/ doesn’t eat than me (I enjoy wine/cheese probably more than I should) but regardless of how strict you are to the diet, the Paleo bread is a good solution as a bread substitute in recipes.

That being said, because of the heat wave this week, our meals will probably consist of mostly light, COLD foods. I have some yummy recipes to try with our new bread solution! Stay tuned!

My eggsalad is super simple!

Hard boilded eggs, diced
equal parts mayo and yellow mustard
salt and pepper!
the crucial part is the yellow mustard- it adds a ton of flavor!

Did you try the coconut version too? I am trying to decide which to buy and it is a hard choice because the shipping is sooooooooo expensive to the East Coast.

I haven't tried the Coconut yet. I am expecting a package next week. I'll be sure to let you all know!

I found the coconut better than the almond. The almond is good but it's a bit dry. I cannot eat two pieces in a sandwich! Both are better toasted. Which is a good thing as I have to keep them in the freezer.

Dude I want some. However the shipping is outrageous. 7.95 for the bread but 30 for the shipping. Help a Paleo brother out man.

i had to laugh when this person said oh 7.99 is nothing when i go out to eat i don't have a problem with paying 9.00 for a glass of wine, really at least you get a buzz with the wine! my opinion some people are poor and they still want to eat right but cant spend 7.99 on a loaf of bread if they want to feed there babies! Im just saying...

I got both breads and the gf carb 0. Just to start the coconut is the only one I would consider buying again. I am a cook and realize there isn't much hope with the allowed ingredients, but they almond and carb zero are very dense and heavy and hard to swallow honestly. OK for a sandwich when you have other foods to break it up when you eat it but not edible at all as toast,. I would never feed it to a young child as it could easily get caught in their throat. That all said it took almost a month to get, was poorly packaged with my miracle noodles leaking and the box got here wet. Fortunately it didn't soak into the bread. Having found this and been on their facebook pages I've noticed they delete anything that isn't raving about the product so we are not getting honest feedback. The linguist in me says the reviews on the page were all written by the same person and posted by julian bakery. I was also told it would be mailed a couple different times that it wasn't. They did send me a tracking number eventually. Just don't have expectations about it.

Totally agree with Kara's comments. Delivery was extremely slow. Bought coconut and almond Paleo breads. They are far too expensive, have no taste, dry (choke hazard for children and adults alike). May as well have eaten the cardboard they were shipped in. I even tried grilling the bread with a small amount of butter and found it only slightly better. It's still in my freezer while I debate if I can use it in a low carb casserole or feed it to the birds. I wish I was as diplomatic as Kara, but I'm too disappointed to sugar-coat my opinion.

I also received rotten bread twice. The coconut bread was really gooey & the almond bread was slimy & smelled bad:( I had such high hopes & now I'm just done with it. I guess I will try to make something at home.

I purchased two loaves of this bread, one almond and one coconut, and I'm sorry to say it is not very good. The bread is very dense, a little wet and both loaves, especially the almond, taste like eggy cardboard. For us the coconut was a little more palatable. We tried both straight out of the bag as well as toasted with almond butter and raisins. I love the idea of these loaves having such basic ingredients but I think there should be a little more flavor to them, perhaps some sort of spice. Disappointment.

I'm furious they delete all comments on their Facebook page that are realistic about what this bread is really like. As far as I'm concerned, all their claims of it being "delicious" are false advertisement and I'm considering returning it and doing a chargeback on my credit card. Instead of answering my question on their Facebook page asking how to make it taste good, they deleted my question (and several other comments) and now I can't leave a comment unless I "like" their page, I guess. This is false advertisement at its worst and they're making a ton of money doing it. Shame on them.

It's horrible. I bought three loaves of each believing their ads it's "delicious." Now I can't get them to reply when I tell them I want to return it and get a refund. Go figure.

Re: Paleo Bread...I ordered two loaves it was inedible...The coconut was slimy and had a huge hole inside and hard as a rock on the outside...The almond was hard as a rock all the way through...They refused to refund so now I am going through Paypal dispute to get my money back...Save your money! I paid nearly $30, for two loaves. I have just been blocked from their Facebook page for leaving a truthful review. Google the product and get the real reviews before you buy it...The Facebook page and the Julian's bakery that sells it deletes any bad reviews
