Reasons I run.
1.) Because I can. The first real long distance ‘race’ I ran was with Hope Express. My team of 15 runners covered 135 hilly and mountainous miles from Hershey to State College, PA. We carried a backpack of letters from the children at Hershey Medical Center seeking treatment for pediatric cancer, to the dancers at Penn State who were standing for 46 hours straight to raise money for THON. One of the most humbling experiences of my life.
3.) To self improve. I am a goal setter. I love to push myself and work towards achieving a goal. Long distance races allow me to do just that. And for me, the best part is racing myself. I don’t care if my friends finished 40 minutes ahead of me, if I felt good and beat my time, I’m a happy camper.
5.) For my health. Some people would probably try to argue that running is bad for you. It hurts your knees, etc etc. Everything in moderation my friends. I run to stay in cardiovascular shape. I run to fit into my jeans. When I run, I sleep better, am more focused and feel a greater physical pay out.
Now if you’re looking for some good tunes (because now you can’t wait to lace up) give these a try. For me, each carries a memory (and a good beat) so it’s like taking my friends and family with me on my runs J

"If you run, you are a runner. It doesn't matter how fast or how far. It doesn't matter if today is your first day or if you've been running for twenty years. There is no test to pass, no license to earn, no membership card to get. You just run."
"I run because it's so symbolic of life. You have to drive yourself to overcome the obstacles. You might feel that you can't. But then you find your inner strength, and realize you're capable of so much more than you thought."
