On my walk to and from the train, I walk through our town’s cemetery. While I know this may sound strange to many people, this cemetery isn’t like many others that I have visited; there are numerous walking paths, beautiful trees and gardens. Aside from the headstones, it feels like a very peaceful park
Routinely, if I am on the phone, listening to music, or my favorite podcasts, I let the world go quiet once I set foot through the gates. As I continue to learn more about supporting my health, I have come to learn that meditation is a critical part to maintaining my healthy homeostasis. The 5- 10 minutes walking the paths is my time to reflect on my day or take some deep breaths before my day begins. For me, this is critical because too often, we become wrapped up, obsessed even, in the minutia of everyday life.
‘Did I send that email? I forgot to RSVP to that party! Oh crap I hope that text message didn’t seem like I had attitude…I can’t forget to arrange that meeting!’
My encouragement to you…put down your phone, ipad or ipod and be present. Listen to the birds chirp or the leaves rustle around you. Learn how to turn off the world and encourage yourself to de-stress. And most importantly, really love the people around you. Turn off the TV, have dinner and laugh a little louder. Because life is too short for the headache-inducing, angry and ugly. Find a moment everyday to cherish the beautiful.
To your health,
