This weekend was jam packed full of new experiences, new blog friends and of course lots of running! Let’s rewind to Friday mmkay?
The beginning of the weekend wasn't any old Friday. Not only was I preparing to embark on a lifelong goal, but I was also packing my belongings and saying goodbye to co-workers and friends. I got a new job that begins after Thanksgiving, and so as my last day played out, a series of emotions took hold. I left my office for the last time and headed down to Center City to walk the expo and meet up with Blog buddy and HLS roomie Melissa. Unfortunately, I got there a little late and she was leaving the event, so I walked the expo alone which ended up working well. Truth be told, I’m not a big fan of race expos maybe with the exception of the Disney Race expos. They seem to all be the same; gear purchase, discounted sneakers and fuel. So I scooted around the event all within 20 minutes.
Saturday was full of errands and prepping for new blog friends. Ritsa, Kara and Ashley all stayed with the BF and I Saturday night. They arrived around 7pm with our no-carb-left-behind feast ready to go.
For my carbo-load meal I had two sweet potatoes sliced and roasted with chicken sausage. The girls had some TJs pasta with bread and a salad. I’m so thankful that I am part of a community that not only accepts my food choices, but also celebrates them. I knew eating pasta the night before would wreak havoc on my stomach, and sweet potatoes were always my pre-training run food. Rule #1 with any big race, DON’T TRY ANYTHING NEW ON RACE DAY!
After dinner the girls hung out and prepped for the next day. I laid out my gear and fuel for the next morning. I have always laid out my outfits the night before a race or even a workout. It saves a lot of scrambling in the morning and helps calm my nerves. After prepping my gear, I went to bed around 9 pm to make sure a 3 am wake-up call didn't feel like death.
Marathon recap coming up next.
